Come learn from Brewers Manager Pat Murphy:  Pat is originally from Syracuse, NY, played college baseball at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. He signed a professional contract to play in the San Francisco Giants organization in 1982 and went on to play four years of pro ball with the Giants, San Diego Padres and Indy ball.  

Murph served as the head baseball coach at the University of Notre Dame from 1988-1994, where he amassed 318 wins, including 40 or more wins in 6 of his 7 years in South Bend, IN. The Fighting Irish made 4 NCAA regional finals during that time. Murph then moved on to Tempe, AZ and served as head baseball coach at tradition rich Arizona State University from 1995-2009. During his 14 year tenure with the Sun Devils Murph won 629 games, an average of 44 wins per season, and made 4 trips to the College World Series. Murphy became the youngest collegiate coach to reach 500 career victories in 1998. In the same year he won Baseball America's Coach of the Year award and was Pac-10 Coach of the Year four times (2000, 2007, 2008 and 2009). He recruited, developed and coached 29 players that went on to play Major League Baseball, including all star’s Willie Bloomquist, Ian Kinsler, Andre Ethier, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Leake and Jason Kipnis.  

Coach Murphy transitioned from college baseball to professional baseball in 2010, spending 5 years in the San Diego Padres organization. He spent one year in the front office as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations before returning to the dugout in their farm system, managing A ball in Eugene, OR and AAA in Tucson, AZ and El Paso, TX. In June of 2015 Murph was named interim manager of the Padres and finished that season in their big league dug out. 

Shortly after the Milwaukee Brewers came calling and Murph’s baseball career came full circle, joining manager Craig Counsell’s 2016 staff as bench coach, whom he recruited and coached 25+ years ago at Notre Dame.  

Pat Murphy served as the Brewers bench coach from 2016 to 2023 and played an integral role in the Crew’s resurgence and success. The Milwaukee Brewers have made 9 playoff appearances in their 54 years of existence, Murph was in the dugout for 5 of those seasons. On November 16, 2023 the Milwaukee Brewers named Pat Murphy their 16th manager in franchise history.
